Community

What can you do to get involved in making Park City a Greener place?  Here are some suggestions on where to start.

My Sustainable Year

My Sustainable Year is your chance to join others in the Park City, Summit County, and Wasatch County areas in trying out 52 green ideas- a different challenge for each week of 2010

Energy & water conservation are two keys to long-term sustainability for our community, nation and the world.  Estimates vary widely on just how much energy and water can be saved with conservation, but one thing’s for sure:  sustainable progress often requires people to change their behavior.

Along with energy and water use, there are lots of other things that impact the planet – what you eat, where you shop, what you buy, etc.  My Sustainable Year is an opportunity for people to "practice" sustainable behaviors in many realms – to try them out, see how they fit, and hopefully commit to long-term, positive changes.

You can also find out the week's challenge by listening to KPCW 91.9 FM every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday or check out the My Sustainable Year article every month in the Park Record.

Improve Your Footprint, and Park City's Reduction

The idea of improving your carbon footprint might be new to you - but you can get used to it in increments using this site. Our carbon calculator has very basic settings for casual calculations, but it also has advanced settings where you can really track your improvements month to month and compare with the progress of Park City overall. If you use this calculator each month, you can see charts of where your
energy usage spiked or improved. It is really quite intuitive to use - give it a try!

We even have a kid's calculator to get the next generation started on local awareness.
