As an initiative of the City Council, in 2005 Mayor Dana Williams signed the US Mayors’ Climate Protection Agreement, which sets a goal of meeting the Kyoto Protocol of reducing Park City’s GHG emissions 7 percent below 1990 levels by 2012. Founded by Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels, the Agreement seeks to advance the goals of the Kyoto Protocol through leadership and action. The US Conference of Mayors Climate Protection Center administers and tracks individual Agreement signatories, which numbered more than 710 as of 2007.
