Do you have any ideas for what we can do for a week of My Sustainable Year? Walk to work week? Only buy used items week?

How about "Just Half" week? Pick a product and try using just half as much as you normally would. Do your clothes get as clean using only half as much laundry detergent? Does your hair need 2 lathers with shampoo, or would one do it?

How about "Borrow Something" Week? Instead of buying a new tool that you'll only use once, borrow or rent it. Same for books, fancy outfits, party dishes...

Read the ingredients on labels for food, and other products. If you find a surprising one look it up online.

Where was it made? Check the label and see how far away a product was made.

RE:No clean paper or envelopes
Try using only paper that has already been used on one side. You can get the paper from work, the bin at the recycle center, or paper that comes in the mail. Try using only envelopes that have already been used or that have come in the mail with bills.

How about "Create a plan to maintain your car" week? We all know that a well maintained car is more efficient, but sometimes it's hard to remember or take the time to do it. Create a system that makes sure your tires are always at the right pressure, the engine is tuned, etc. Put it in your day planner now!

Greener Cleaner Week
This week try vinegar as a water softener and rinse agent in the laundry, baking soda as an abrasive scrub in the kitchen or bath, lemon juice and salt to remove rust, vinegar to remove hard water stains, salt to clean tarnish off jewelry...

For something a bit different, I like to xc ski to work during this time of the year.
Get a winter trail map so you know the trails. You can ski all the way to PCMR (if you have a White Pine pass) and then catch the bus the rest of the way into town.
