Tuesday, April 9th at 7 PM
Jörg Rügemer, Professor and Architect
Jörg Rügemer is a professor at the University of Utah School of Architecture, a director of the Integrated Technology in Architecture Center (iTAC), and principal of Atelier Jörg Rügemer in Park City.  Jörg previously ran his architecture firm in Berlin, Shanghai, and Hamburg and has also taught at various universities throughout the world.  Jörg instructs students on architecture and sustainable design with a research focus on cost-effective high performance passive buildings.  Between 2009 and 2011, he developed and built the 125 Haus.  This home in Park City became Utah’s most energy-efficient and cost-effective building.  Jörg’s lecture will address challenges of developing high performance residential buildings at market rate cost.  He will also report on the actual energy performance of 125 Haus with data from the past 24 months of living in the space.

Sustainability in the Outdoor Industry: What’s the Beta?
Wednesday, April 24th at 7 PM
Peter Metcalf & Jeff Nash, Black Diamond Equipment
The outdoor industry is central to mountain town communities.  Can the industry really “go green”?  And is its voice strong enough to encourage others to do so?  Speakers Peter Metcalf and Jeff Nash will weigh in.

Peter Metcalf is the CEO and President of Black Diamond Equipment, a company he co-founded in 1989.  He is also an outspoken advocate for the protection of open space and public land.  Jeff Nash is a member of the Advisory Council to the Outdoor Industry Association’s (OIA) Sustainability Working Group and is Black Diamond’s Vice President of Engineering Support Services.  Jeff will fill us in on the outdoor industry’s efforts, including everything from published sustainability tracking tools to behind-the-scenes working groups.  We’ll hear about what’s already in place and what to look for next.  Peter will focus on open space and public lands, as well as the industry’s stance on this front.

Spiritual Sustainability and Stewardship
Thursday, May 2nd at 7 PM
Susan Soleil, Utah Interfaith Power and Light
Søren Simonsen and Rachel Whipple, LDS Earth Stewardship
There is a strong and growing connection between faith-based communities and the environment.  This nexus will be discussed by Utah locals who are connecting spiritual commitment with environmental responsibility and stewardship.  Utah Interfaith Power and Light Executive Director, Susan Soleil, will join us to discuss her organization’s efforts to formally assist faith communities looking to address climate change and other ecological challenges.  We will also be joined by Board members from LDS Earth Stewardship to learn about connections between the Mormon faith and caring for our natural environment.  Do spiritual communities offer a powerful link to solving our greatest environmental dilemmas?  What are the potential impacts (and challenges) when making this connection in Utah?  Come and learn more during this timely discussion and Q&A session.

This series is free and open to the public!  All lectures will be held at Swaner EcoCenter; 1258 Center Drive Park City, UT 84098

Space is limited for each lecture, so arrive early.  RSVPs are encouraged (email: SwanerEcoCenter@usu.edu).
